The other day I was at the market and there was a person who was selling old records. There he had also a machine that was playing old songs from long ago. It was as I was listening that I heard a song that I knew well. I had not heard this old song for over thirty-five years and as the singer was singing the song I was remembering the words as he was singing the song. It was a special moment for me, and it brought back a lot of memories. As I write, I wonder do you remember the words of old songs from yesteryear. They are so special, and you remember the first time you heard them and where you were. Do you remember buying the old records and the cassettes and playing them over and over again? They are songs that span the test of time.
But as I consider these songs I also remember other songs that mean a lot. Like the song ‘How Great Thou Art’. More than just remembering the moment where you first heard it but also the message of the song and what it meant. And with the hearing of such music there came into your heart a longing for something that was better. There came with the song a realization that there is someone above us all who is beyond our thinking and that we accept it all by faith. And for me, I guess that this is the reason for these special songs being so special. They have a message that cannot be matched. They have a message that speaks to the heart. More than that is the point that these songs have a message that can give hope where there is no hope. And remember this, the hope that is contained within these special songs are there for you even today. Now how special is that!
