Standing there on the path
Watching the world go by
Knowing that he had done
His best for the county he loved
But time has a way of passing
With nothing in this world lasting
So where does this leave this day
As we stand on the pathway walk.
And standing there by his side
Knowing that age has gone by
With the bending of back and knee
No longer young as could be
But holding fast to each day
Knowing that life has a way
We cannot tell what's ahead
As we take hold of each day.
But each day we have is a gift
A gift that we do not give up
Keeping in mind that the giver
Gave all that we can have hope
As we stand there on the sidewalk
And stand to attention so tall
So may we remember His Gift
Hold fast to His Hand each day.
