They came and went
And gave of their all
For toil and gain
With the price being pain
But what of the day
When it all comes to an end
It matters so little
So little to me.
Those men and women
They faced life in the bush
With sunburn and dust
And flies in their eyes
With hope in their hearts
They made clear the bush
And so for this nation
The foundation was laid.
And so for this day
As we look back and see
The work that was done
Was all done for me
But how sad it is
That for nothing they gained
But laid it all down
For you and for me.
