There are times when one is tempted to stop and consider what has gone before. One thing that I remember was that life was a lot simpler and that all things happened in a more realistic way (maybe). That our hopes as young children were not as great and that we were happy with what we were given. I think of my time at primary school and that for us children, all we had were push bikes that were simple and yet they all went well. We did not know any different, and so we were happy with what we had. I remember the push bike that I first had. It was only a simple affair with no gears and a brake that actually worked. It was a second hand bike that didn't cost much. But we were happy and that was that.
The other day I was in the bike shop for a reason and I took a moment to take in the prices of the bikes that were on offer. The sad fact was that as I took in the sight I came to the sad realization that things have changed. Now a simple bike starts at about $250.00 and then it goes upward. Umm… my first bike was only $24.00 and it was second hand. And yes, it was a few years ago. I guess that it tells me that I am getting a little older and that we cannot turn back the clock.
So what is the message of all of this? Time does not stand still. And just as time does not wait for me, so it will not wait for you either. So make the best of each day that you are given. Give thought as to what you are wanting to achieve and to give it your best. As someone once said, life is not a dress rehearsal. You only have one go at it. And in the making the best of life take a moment to know The One who gave you life in the first place.
