Looking at the title you may wonder at what this is all about. And the truth must be told that it did happen some while ago. I guess that it would have been a hot day. And we were in the middle of doing the dipping of the sheep. It is quite a job and it means a long day doing the task with all hands on deck and the saying goes. And all hands were on deck that day. We even had some people up from the city that year who were giving a hand that day. I would like to think that they were enjoying what was happening and I am sure that they would have, but for one thing.
Let me tell you about it. You must appreciate that we had a dip situation where the sheep go into a dip that is about five foot deep. And it is quite long to make sure that the sheep get a full covering of that dip. And they did get the full dip. We would make sure of that point. And so there we were doing a good job of it. Now our friends from up the city were doing their part and making sure that the sheep were getting the total cover of the mixture. But as you know things can go wrong and they did!
You see, the fact of the matter is that the railing alongside the dip was on the inside of the posts and while that may sound nothing, it would become an issue before that day was ended. How could that happen? Easy! As the friend was leaning against the railing it all gave way and he went into the dip head first! What a fright the poor man got but we got him cleaned up and all was well.
But there is a lesson for us to learn from this. Do not take things for granted. And this rule does not only apply to working around a sheep dip. It can also include making sure that we have our lives in order and that we know what we really want for the future. And what is the best thing that we can have for the future? For different people it may mean different things, but I will put to you one thing. That being that when you come to the end of the road, how good it is to know that you are safe in the care of the one who made you.
