It never ceases to amaze me the way in which animals can behave. You think that you are on top of it and then they show that you are wrong and that they have feelings of hurt and also of mischief. Really, I hear you say! Can an animal really be like that? And please keep in mind that I am talking about a cat! What I am talking about took place just the other day. And I saw it for myself.
We have a room that we do not like the cats to be in. But the problem with the room is that it is hard to keep close, due to the fact that where we are is on a land slip area and so the door does not shut properly. Yes, it may be shut but just a push will open the door. And the cat is well aware of this fact as well. Hence there has been discussions where we have laid down the law and reminded the cats that this is not on. But then the other day it happened and it brought home to me the fact that this cat is not dumb. I was up the bedroom doing something and the door in question was just outside the room that I was in. There was a squeak and we knew that the cat was opening the door. My wife called out from the lounge room and I looked to see that the cat was nowhere in sight. So what had happened? The cat knew that he would get a reaction and so opened the door to see what would happen and walked away.
So what does this tell me. That animals do think and that they know what they are doing more to what we give credit. And while we may be irritated by it all, for once we had to admit that the joke was on us. And the most amazing part of it all was that the joke was done by the cat. What a wonderful world we all do live in!
